Drawings of Rome: Tom Keesee, Artist

Sunday, November 11, 2018
Main Library
Gallery
These drawings record my two trips to Rome. The small watercolors were done on site during the first visit in 2014. They were small in order to be finished in about two hours. During the three week trip to Rome a little under 50 watercolors were produced. That low number and small size proved disappointing. For the next journey to Rome in 2017 I took only paper and pencil. Each of these larger pencil drawings took about an hour to complete on site. During this second trip to Rome of the same length of time as the first, 105 pencil drawings were generated on paper. Back home in my studio the lines are gone over with ink and a wash of watercolor added. Working in this way has proved to be more efficient in accomplishing a greater number of drawings. -Tom Keesee
